32nd Wolfhounds Air Operations span

In the spring of 1994 HQ USAF (E) received permission from HQ USAF to use the 32d designation for the new 32d Air Operations Group. The 32d Tactical Fighter Squadron was redesigned the 32d Air Operations Squadron on 1 July 1994 following the closure of Soesterberg Air Base. The squadron assigned to the 32d Air Operations Group, formerly the 32d Fighter Group, which was also redesigned on 1 July 1994. Both the group and the squadron are assigned to Ramstein Air Base, Germany, under the USAFE Theater Air and Space-operations Center.

Along with the other squadrons of the 32nd Air Operations Group, the 32nd Air Operations Squadron forms the score of USAFE's "Falconer" Air Operations Center, delivering integrated command and control of air and space operations from concept and strategy development, to planning, combat execution and assessment. Expeditionary and tailorable, the 32nd Air Operations Squadron deploys scalable packages to provide command and control of expeditionary air and space operations throughout US European Command area of responsibility.

Building 100 at Ramstein ABDuring Operation ALLIED FORCE the AOC (Air Operations Center) validated its deployed capability during the air campaign against the former Republic of Yugoslavia to desist its repression of Kosovar Albanians in Kosovo. The AOC both augmented the Balkans Combined Air Operations Center and maintained a small U.S.-only AOC in Italy.
The "Wolfhounds" were USAFE's air and space operations experts, the team builders, enabling the "Falconer" weapons system to deliver effects on target, anytime, anyplace. In this capacity, the 32nd Air Operations Squadron played a critical role in Deny Flight, Deliberate Force, Decisive Endeavor, Guardian Assistance, Guardian Retrieval, Assured Lift, Operation Allied Force, Enduring Freedom, Iraq Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism.

After participating in operation Iraqi and Enduring freedom, about 80 members of the unit came home on September 10, 2004. Tanned and tired after three months at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. The group, which includes members from the 32nd Air Operations Squadron, the 32nd Air Intelligence Squadron and the 32nd Information Warfare Flight, form the core of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe's Falconer Air Operations Center at Ramstein AB.

When tensions rose between U.S. troops and Iraqi insurgents this summer, members of Ramstein's 32nd made sure American GI's got the air support they needed. The center provided all command and control for coalition sorties over Iraq and Afghanistan, from developing strategy to combat execution. When Marines asked for airstrikes in Fallujah, the center made it happen. When the Army's standoff with the Sadr militia in Najaf got ugly, the center ordered up the firepower to help suppress it. Center members also were waiting with a plan in place in case things got nasty during the transfer of authority from the United States to Iraq. The center was the core of a 700 member Air Force team that had its eye on the entire Middle East battle space from Qatar.

While the 80 members were in Qatar, home station personnel stayed on point to ensure mission success. The remaining group members pulled together to make sure the mission continued. Significant events supported by the 32nd included support of Euro Watch. Euro Watch is the functional management of 24/7 operations for the purpose of monitoring U.S. air assets operating within the European Command. The group also provided planning and manning augmentation during the 2004 Summer Olympics and paraplegic Olympics in Athens, Greece. The squadron's responsibilities didn't decrease because of the deployment. Actually they got busier because of world events that happened during that time.

In 2005 the Wolfhounds were back at Soesterberg Air Base. A group of 32nd experts was participating in the exercise Clean Hunter that was held on the base from June 27 to July 8.

The 32nd Air Operations Squadron is inactivated on the 1st of November 2005. As from that day, they live trough as 32nd Air and Space Operation Center. Due Air Force regulations it is not using the Wolfhound as a symbol anymore. The Wolfhound needs to stay in a flying squadron. It was a special decision to allow it to be with a command and control squadron but now headquarters won't allow it to be a Center.

Insignia 603d AOCThe last tie with the Wolfhounds and its symbol was cut on December 1, 2006. On that day the United States Air Force reactivated the 3rd Air Force. The 3rd Air Force includes the 603rd Air Operation Center, which was know as the 32nd Air and Space Operations Center.
